Apex Trader Funding trailing drawdown explained: intraday vs EOD

Last checked 2026-10-04 against Apex's Help Center. Apex updates its rules regularly, so confirm on your dashboard.

Apex sells two kinds of evaluation with the same drawdown amounts but very different behaviour: an Intraday Trailing account, where the threshold follows your peak including open profit, and an EOD (end-of-day) Trailing account, where it only moves when a day closes higher. Picking the wrong one for your style is one of the most common ways to fail.

Intraday trailing: the trade that never closed still moved your floor

50K Intraday Trailing account, starting threshold $48,000. You open a trade and it runs to +$900 open profit (equity $50,900). The threshold immediately trails to $48,900. The trade then comes back and you close it at breakeven. Your balance is $50,000 again, but the threshold stays at $48,900: your room is now $1,100, not $2,000.1

So on an intraday account, open profit you give back still costs you room. Taking partial profits or trailing your stop keeps your balance closer to the peak the threshold is following.

EOD trailing: only the close counts

50K EOD Evaluation, threshold $48,000. Intraday swings don't move it. If the day closes at $50,600, the threshold for the next session is $48,600. If you're down $300 during a session, the $1,000 daily loss limit leaves $700 before trading is paused for the day (49,000), and the account is still alive.2 Touching the EOD threshold itself fails the evaluation.2

The trade-off: the EOD account adds a daily loss limit, but open profit during the day can't ratchet your floor up.

Automation and copying at Apex

Apex's prohibited-activities page says "No Automation or Algorithm Usage allowed" and forbids trade copying with other traders.3 Calculators and alerts that don't place trades are a different thing, but read the current page before using any tool that sends orders.
