E8 Markets daily drawdown and dynamic drawdown explained
Last checked 2026-10-04 against E8's Help Center. E8 lets you customize both percentages at checkout; the 4% and 6% used here are the values in E8's own examples.
The two rules in one paragraph
Daily drawdown: each day, your equity must stay above the day's starting balance minus a fixed percentage of your initial balance (4% in E8's examples).1 Dynamic drawdown: your overall floor sits a percentage of initial balance (6% in E8's examples) below your highest closed balance, rises only when you close trades at a new high, and locks at your initial balance.2
Daily drawdown example ($100,000 account, 4%)
| Day-start balance | Daily allowance (4% of initial) | Equity must stay above |
|---|---|---|
| $100,000 | $4,000 | $96,000 |
| $102,500 | $4,000 | $98,500 |
The allowance is a fixed dollar amount because it's based on the initial balance; the starting point moves with your balance.1 The reset is at 00:00 server time; E8's page doesn't state the server's time zone, so check it in your platform.
Dynamic drawdown example ($100,000 account, 6%)
| Event | Closed balance | Highest closed balance | Dynamic floor |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | $100,000 | $100,000 | $94,000 |
| Close +$2,000 | $102,000 | $102,000 | $96,000 |
| Close −$3,000 | $99,000 | $102,000 | $96,000 (doesn't move down) |
| Close +$8,000 | $107,000 | $107,000 | $100,000 (locked at initial) |
These figures are modelled on the example in E8's Dynamic Drawdown article.2 Once the floor reaches the initial balance it stays there, so from that point you're effectively trading on a static floor at break-even.
How E8's dynamic drawdown differs from other trailing rules
- Closed trades only. Unlike Apex's intraday trailing threshold, open profit doesn't raise the floor; only closing at a new high does.2
- Not end-of-day. Unlike Topstep's MLL, it can move several times a day, every time you close at a new high.
- It locks. Once you're up by the drawdown amount on closed trades, the floor stops at the initial balance.2
Practical takeaways
- Your two floors are independent: today's daily floor (day-start balance − 4% of initial) and the dynamic floor. The higher one is the one that will stop you.
- If you picked different percentages at checkout, use yours. The mechanics stay the same.
- Closing a winner at a new high raises the dynamic floor straight away, so leave room for the next trade's stop.
